It was so cold!

If you follow me on my socials, you would have seen that my hubby and I did a hot cold date about 6 weeks ago, then I went back solo for some red light therapy.

Cold plunges are all the rage right now, but I heard about this contrast therapy over 20 years ago at a conference but never really thought much about it because I was in my 20's and invincible :)

Now that I am nearly 50, utilizing any form of natural recovery and rejuvenation is essential to staying as active, strong, independent and vibrant as possible.

So what is the point of enjoying an amazing hot sauna to only expose yourself to, in my opinion, torturous cold water!

  • reduced inflammation/swelling from sore muscles and joints

  • endorphin boost - better mood!

  • better sleep - yes please!

  • reduced stress -everyone needs this

  • promotes lymphatic drainage - toxin removal support

  • possible boost in testosterone + hormone regulation

  • metabolism boost - calorie burn increased

  • improved insulin sensitivity - blood sugar control improved.

Now if you like, mmmm no thank you to the cold, then consider red light therapy. Red light therapy uses Red LED light that travels deeper into the skin than blue LED light, which is sometimes used to treat skin surface conditions such as acne.

Red light therapy is thought to work by acting on the “power plant” in your body’s cells called mitochondria. With more energy, other cells can do their work more efficiently, doing things like repairing skin, boosting new cell growth and enhancing skin rejuvenation. More specifically, certain cells absorb light wavelengths and are stimulated to work.

Red light therapy may work in skin health to:

  • Stimulate collagen production, which gives skin its structure, strength and elasticity.

  • Increase collagen production and collagen is a component of connective tissue that builds skin.

  • Increase blood circulation to the tissue.

  • Reduce inflammation in cells. (muscle recovery!)

I have now started to use these therapies to help with my weekly recovery from my training, teaching and life so I can keep doing what I am doing for as long as possible while minimizing muscle and joint soreness/inflammation and maximizing muscle growth and maintenance.
